A special offer for public Ceramic Studios during the difficult time.
Ceramic Materials Workshop has a special offer for all public ceramic studios forced to close during the Covid-19 crisis. We are offering our online workshops at a steep discount to you, so that you may use these programs as a fundraiser for your studio. This is an opportunity to keep your students engaged in ceramics during this time when they can’t get to the studio as well as a chance to generate income while your studio may be facing economic strain.
Traditionally CMW sells our content online, directly to our customers. At this time, we are offering to sell our classes through your studio. CMW will provide a deep discount so you as the studio owner can collect the difference in retail costs for yourself, as a way to generate income during this difficult time.
CMW is run by Rose and Matt Katz and they specialize in teaching about how glazes and clays work, online. They teach at schools such as Alfred University, The Rhode Island School of Design and Harvard University, They make it their job to translate the technical side of clay and glazes for makers of all experience levels.
We are offering our online, self-guided workshop, “Glaze of Our Lives-Understanding Glazes for the Beginner”, to you.
Find out more and watch a sample video here
Glaze of Our Lives teaches makers (of all levels, not just beginners!) everything they need to know to get started understanding how and why glazes work and is over 12 hours of video education.
GOOL retails for $100. We are willing to offer it to your studio for $40/person. You would then be free to offer it to your students however you wish. You can choose to pay $40/student and offer it as a free gift to your students. Alternatively, you could charge $100, and keep $60 for yourself as a way to generate funds. Or say, offer it for $80/person and advertise it as a “special sale only for your studio”. Or some other structure, the choice is yours.
We do have other online workshops this offer can extend to as well.
Separate enrollments must be made for each program.
Those other workshops are:
“The Middle Glazes-The Story of Mid-Temperature Glazes”. Teaching everything you need to know to understand glazes in the mid-range. This workshop is over 10 hours of content, helping students make sense of Cone 6

The Middle Glazes also sells for a retail cost of $100 and will be offered for $40/student.
Lastly "Glazed and Confused-Understanding the Unity Molecular Formula" An exploration into the U.M.F. which is the chemistry language that allows us to know and predict how glaze will behave in the kiln and to know why they work and why they don't.

This workshop sells for a retail cost of $40 and will be offered for $20/student.
How this works
We will provide you with a marketing email template which you can use to email your membership. After establishing interest you would then collect the email addresses and payments from your students. You will then provide us with a list of the email address in a spreadsheet format (see below), and transfer to us a payment through Quickbooks, Paypal, Venmo or Check, with the quoted price per student for the workshop chosen, on the submitted list. Once both are received, we will enroll your students in the online content. They will receive an email message, from us inviting them to join us, and that is all. They can then jump into the program and begin learning.
Terms and Conditions
Terms and Conditions for Students
There are really quite few conditions for the students. Once the student receives their invitation, they will have access to their online content for as long as CMW exists. There are no time limits or restrictions, once they purchase their product. The student is free to enjoy the content on any internet connected device. The student can watch and re-watch the content as many times as they wish. The content can only be streamed and there is no downloading.
Students and studio managers are only allowed to use their enrollment for their personal use. If we suspect or detect account sharing, public displays of our content, or piracy of our content, that student or studio’s account will be deleted, and no refunds given.
Terms and Conditions for Studio Owners/Managers
This offer extends to all ceramic studios, workshops, art centers, or any other ceramic educational center open to the public, internationally. This offer is not open to individuals or manufacturers of any scale, except through a local center they may belong.
Our workshops are presented in English only and at this time are not closed captioned for the hearing impaired.
This offer only extends to a member who can be publicly identified as the owner or manager of a public ceramic studio. Your studio must have a publicly available web presence (with adequate followers if a social media page), and the person contacting us must be identified on that website. When you contact us, please provide us with a direct link to your page with identifying details. This offer cannot be offered through a member or instructor. Please feel free to share it with an owner or manager, but the program must be established and managed by them.
The list for enrollment must have a minimum of 5 participants, per workshop, per section. There is no maximum number of enrollments. We will offer one free enrollment to the workshop, for the organizer.
This offer will have two enrollment periods. One at the initial offering, and a second enrollment, to add anyone who “missed” the first round of enrollments. This condition is not a penalty, simply logistical. Student management on our end is laborious. We have found in the past, if we leave enrollment open, we receive dozens of “just one more person to add” emails and that is difficult to manage. Because of this we will offer your studio two enrollment windows. We will not accept or acknowledge any enrollments outside these windows. Both windows must be utilized by October 2020. If after the second window you have a substantial collection of students who would like to join, contact us and we can discuss the option.
At the time of the submission of enrollments, your submitted document must be sent in on our template provided by us via email. Submissions will not be accepted in any other format. The submission document must be titled. [STUDIONAME]_CMW_Fundraiser_GOOL_[DATE].xlsx
Your document must begin with the name of your studio, mailing address, phone number, website URL, contact person, and contact email address. Then followed with the list of student email addresses, each address occupying an individual cell. We will provide you a file template along with the marketing materials.
If you wish to enroll in more that one of our other workshops, an additional document must be submitted. Contact us for details.
We can enroll students as quickly as conditions are met, but no enrollments will be made until payment is received by us. If paying digitally, enrollment, may be as soon as same day. If paying by check, enrollments will not be processed until the check has been received, deposited, and cleared.
These workshops may not be offered "to the public". Meaning that enrolled students, must be members of the studio, be currently or previously enrolled in an educational program at your studio. Enrolled students must be geographically local to the studio they are enrolled by. This offer cannot be advertised as open to the public over the internet. Studios can advertise the program through their email list, on their website or over social media, but enrollees, must be previously associated with your studio.
No refunds of any kind will be given on these purchases. All sales are final.
The workshops are for their personal use only. If we suspect or detect account sharing, public displays of our content, or piracy of our content, the student or studio’s account will be deleted, and no refunds given.
We would be happy to answer any questions for you.
